Latke vs. Hamentasch Debate with Jewish Life at Duke

Are you Team Latke or Team Hamentasch? It's an important question concerning two Jewish food favorites. Inspired by a 78-year-old tradition at the University of Chicago, Jewish Life at Duke will host Duke Professors Adam Levine, Associate Professor of Mathematics, and Dan Scolnic, Associate Professor of Physics and the 2025-2026 Duke Presidential Fellow, for a humorous academic debate to argue for these Hanukkah and Purim delicacies. The debate will be settled on Wednesday, February 25th at the Freeman Center for Jewish Life.
This is not a polite food tasting. This is a full-blown mock-academic debate, complete with dramatic arguments, questionable "evidence," historical deep-dives no one asked for, and absolutely biased judges. Expect passionate speeches, terrible puns, bold claims about theology and geometry, and arguments that spiral wildly out of proportion.
No prior knowledge required - just a sense of humor and a willingness to take carbs seriously.
Refreshments, including latkes and hamantaschen, provided, of course!
Free tickets required. Tickets available for Duke students starting February 3rd and to the general public starting February 10th at tickets.duke.edu.
