W-2 Form

This is a form that you get from your employer early in the new year that gives details of how much money the employer paid you on a gross basis and then how much tax and Social Security was taken out in the previous year. If you worked for more than one employer during the past year, you should get a W-2 from each of them. It's an important document because you include it with the tax return when you file your taxes, and it will be evidence if you need to prove that you paid too much tax in the past year and are due for a tax refund. (It will also be evidence if you didn't pay enough tax last year.)
