This is the general name given to the market where securities are traded after they have been offered in the primary market. For stocks, the primary market will be when the stock is first offered at the IPO. All subsequent trading in the stock is said to occur in the secondary market. For bonds, the primary market is when a bond is first sold by the issuer. Having been issued and bought, the bond can then be traded in the secondary bond market.
