Maturity Date (Bonds)

When you buy a bond you are essentially lending money to the issuer of the bond that the issuer must repay at the maturity date of the bond. If it is a five-year bond you would get the money back in five years. You could say the bond "matures" in five years. Any type of loan can have a maturity date, which is the time the loan becomes due to be repaid.
