Also known as a coupon payment, this term generally describes the regular payments made by the issuer of a bond to the bondholders. They are known as coupon payments rather than interest payments because bonds originally came with a book of coupons: to receive the periodic payments, the bondholder would tear off a coupon and mail it to the bond issuer, which would then send back the money.
